Location: San Antonio, TX – Onsite Engagement

Engagement Duration: 18-Month Contract

Compensation: $30 – $34 per hour (on W2)

Work Schedule: Day Shift A: This is a 12-hour shift pattern, encompassing Sundays through Wednesdays for one week, followed by Sundays through Tuesdays the subsequent week. Flexibility for this specific rotating schedule is essential.

Role Overview: What You’ll Be Doing

As a Data Center Technician, you’ll be instrumental in the meticulous management and maintenance of critical IT infrastructure. Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of hardware, from initial deployment to eventual decommissioning, all while adhering to stringent operational and safety protocols.

  • Equipment Lifecycle Management: You’ll be responsible for the comprehensive process of preparing, staging, configuring, and executing both initial power-ups (startups) and controlled power-downs (shutdowns) of diverse IT equipment. This requires meticulous adherence to established operational procedures and rigorous safety guidelines to ensure the integrity of systems and the safety of personnel. Precision in following detailed instructions is paramount in this high-stakes environment.
  • Quality Assurance and Verification: Following any hardware deployment or modification, you’ll conduct thorough post-execution quality checks. These assessments are critical to confirm that all installations meet exacting standards for proper grounding, optimal physical staging, accurate labeling of components and connections, and correct cabling configurations. Your attention to detail will directly contribute to the reliability and maintainability of the data center’s physical layer.
  • Advanced Hardware Diagnostics and Resolution: A core function of this role involves expertly diagnosing and troubleshooting complex hardware malfunctions. You’ll be expected to rapidly pinpoint the root cause of issues and proficiently perform break-fix repairs on a wide array of faulty components. This includes identifying defective parts, performing replacements, and verifying system functionality post-repair. Your ability to quickly isolate and resolve hardware issues is vital for minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous service availability.
  • Hardware Refresh and System Rebuilds: You’ll play a key role in the decommissioning of older hardware as part of strategic system refresh initiatives. This process involves the safe and secure removal of equipment, often preceding significant system upgrades such as memory enhancements or complete operating system rebuilds. Your understanding of hardware dependencies and data security protocols during decommissioning will be crucial.
  • Proactive System Monitoring and Anomaly Response: Continuous monitoring of systems for indicators of equipment failures or anomalous errors is an ongoing responsibility. You’ll be expected to promptly and effectively respond to system-generated error messages and alerts, initiating appropriate diagnostic and corrective actions to prevent or mitigate service disruptions. This proactive approach ensures the stability and performance of the data center.

These credentials demonstrate a foundational understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking principles.
  • Hands-on Hardware Support Expertise: Demonstrated experience as a Data Center Technician or in a similar role with significant responsibilities for hardware break-fix operations. This includes practical experience in diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components within server, storage, and networking systems.
  • Prior Technical Repair Experience: Previous professional experience in a computer repair technician capacity, such as working for a technical support service (e.g., Geek Squad or an equivalent independent repair center), is highly advantageous. Such roles provide valuable exposure to diverse hardware issues and customer interaction in a technical troubleshooting context.
  • Educational Foundation: A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational attainment is a fundamental requirement for this position.
  • Core Hardware Knowledge: A solid foundational understanding of computer hardware, including various types of servers, storage devices, networking equipment, and their individual components (e.g., CPUs, RAM, hard drives, power supplies, network interface cards).
