Network Analyst

Posted: 06/18/2025 Job Type: Contract Industry: Computer and Mathematical

Our client, a prominent organization, is actively seeking a meticulous and highly capable Network Analyst to join their dedicated team. As a Network Analyst, you will play a crucial role within the Infrastructure Services team, providing essential support to the Information Management Services Division. The ideal candidate for this position will possess exceptional documentation skills, a proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and strong communication skills, ensuring a seamless and effective alignment within our client’s collaborative and results-oriented environment.

Location:

This position requires full-time, onsite presence at our client’s facility in Milwaukee, WI.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Network Analyst, your primary responsibilities will focus on gaining a deep understanding and thorough documentation of our client’s complex network infrastructure. Your key tasks will include:

  • Extensive Infrastructure Mapping: You will be tasked with systematically scouting, meticulously surveying, and comprehensively mapping the entirety of a large-scale wireless infrastructure that spans across a complex public facility. This involves identifying access points, antennas, cabling pathways, and coverage areas.
  • Detailed Device Inventory & Documentation: A critical component of this role is to create and maintain an accurate, comprehensive inventory of all network devices encountered. For each device, you will meticulously document its product type, specific model, core function, associated vendor, and its precise physical location within the facility. This will include routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, servers, and other connected hardware.
  • Visual Documentation Depository: You will be responsible for building and curating a centralized depository of high-quality images. These images will visually depict the various network technologies and physical installations present throughout the facility, serving as an invaluable visual reference for troubleshooting and future planning.
  • Network Diagram Review and Analysis: You will diligently review existing network diagrams and technical schematics. Your objective will be to precisely define current IP schemes, identify all active configuration protocols (e.g., VLANs, routing protocols), and thoroughly document connectivity pathways, including physical and logical interconnections between devices and segments.
  • Technology Association and Categorization: A key analytical task will be to define and accurately associate specific network devices and critical applications to the various vendor technologies (e.g., Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Palo Alto) that are present and utilized within the overall infrastructure. This helps in understanding dependencies and technology footprints.
  • Problem Identification & Troubleshooting Support: While not a primary troubleshooting role, your detailed documentation will be crucial in assisting senior engineers and support teams in quickly identifying potential issues, tracing connectivity problems, and understanding the operational context of various network components.

What’s Needed:

We’re looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Educational Foundation: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and direct, relevant work experience.
  • Networking Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience specifically within computer networking infrastructure. This practical exposure should include familiarity with various network components and their basic operation.
  • Wireless Technology Acumen: A solid familiarity with wireless technology concepts, standards (e.g., Wi-Fi protocols), and common wireless networking equipment is essential.
  • Instructional Adherence: A demonstrated ability to precisely follow complex technical instructions, whether provided verbally during a walkthrough or in detailed written documentation. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount.
  • Diagnostic Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to apply logical diagnostic techniques and follow established protocols to identify root causes and gather necessary information.
  • Strong Documentation Skills: A proven track record of creating clear, concise, and highly organized technical documentation, including network maps, inventories, and operational procedures.
  • Autonomy and Initiative: The capability to work independently, manage tasks efficiently, and take initiative in identifying areas for improvement in documentation and network understanding.
