A contact in our network has shared an opening for a Network Infrastructure Engineer at Foredge Corporation, a dynamic firm specializing in providing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) basic network equipment and solutions with data transmission as its core. This full-time, permanent position, based onsite in the Kanto region of Japan, offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from ¥200,000 – ¥350,000, along with transportation cost reimbursement and a monthly skill allowance. In this role, you will be responsible for network or server infrastructure projects for their clients, covering planning, design, testing, operation, and maintenance, as well as a wide range of network security-related projects.


What You’ll Be Doing: Building and Securing Network Infrastructure for Diverse Clients

As a Network Infrastructure Engineer, your core mission will be to design, plan, implement, and maintain robust network and server infrastructures for a diverse range of clients. Your responsibilities will span the entire network lifecycle, from initial conceptualization to ongoing operations and security.

  • Network Planning and Design: You will be instrumental in network planning and design for various client projects. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to understand their business requirements and translating those into detailed network architectures. You’ll specify network topologies, select appropriate routers, switches, and firewalls, define IP addressing schemes, and plan for scalability, performance, and reliability, ensuring the network effectively supports client operations.
  • Network Testing, Operation, and Maintenance: You will actively participate in network testing, performing rigorous validation of new designs and configurations before deployment to ensure functionality and performance. Following deployment, you’ll be responsible for the operation and maintenance of client networks. This includes monitoring network health, managing configurations, optimizing traffic flow, and performing routine tasks to ensure continuous availability and efficiency, minimizing downtime for mission-critical systems.
  • Wide Range of Network Security Related Projects: Depending on your experience and track record, you will be involved in a wide range of network security related projects. This could include implementing advanced firewall configurations, deploying intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), configuring VPNs, establishing secure remote access solutions, and ensuring compliance with various security policies and standards. Your contributions will be vital in safeguarding client data and infrastructure from cyber threats.
  • Design and Build Operating Systems and Middleware: You will apply your knowledge to design and build operating systems (OS) and middleware environments. This includes working with platforms such as AWS, Azure (cloud services), and on-premises systems like Linux, Windows, and Unix. Your expertise will ensure that the underlying server infrastructure is robust, secure, and optimized to host client applications and services effectively.
  • Design and Build Databases: You will have the opportunity to design and build databases for client projects. This involves working with various database management systems such as Oracle, SQL, and DB2. Your responsibilities could include schema design, performance tuning, and ensuring data integrity and security for critical data storage solutions that support network and server operations.
  • Provide Help Desk and Customer Support: You will also engage in help desk and customer support activities. This involves responding to client inquiries, diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to network or server infrastructure, and providing clear, professional assistance to ensure client satisfaction. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts simply will be highly valued.
  • Hardware and Software Asset Management: You will gain experience in tasks related to managing hardware and software assets within the network infrastructure. This could involve documenting configurations, tracking inventory, and ensuring that all components are properly maintained and updated for optimal performance and security.

What You’ll Bring: Essential Qualifications for a Network Engineer in Japan

To excel as a Network Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll need a blend of language proficiency, technical expertise in networking and servers, and practical experience in system design and operations.

  • Bilingual Proficiency (Japanese & English): You must possess an upper middle level of Japanese language ability (approximately N3-N2 JLPT equivalent), crucial for effective communication within the team and with local clients. You also need Business Level English language proficiency (for technical documentation and global collaboration). The ability to use other languages is considered an advantage. This bilingual capability is essential for seamless integration into the Japanese work environment and serving diverse clients.
  • Work Experience in Network or Server Design/Operations (6 months+): You must have work experience of 6 months or above in network or server design, planning, operation, and maintenance systems.   • LAN and WAN Design/Configuration Experience (Advantageous): Experience in LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) design/configuration is highly advantageous. This demonstrates your ability to plan and implement network topologies for various scales of client environments.
  • Knowledge of Routers, Switches, and Firewalls (Advantageous): Having knowledge of routers, switches, and firewalls is highly advantageous. This includes understanding their functionalities, configuration basics, and their role in network connectivity and security.
  • Ability to Design and Build OS/Middleware (Advantageous): The ability to design and build OS and middleware such as AWS, Azure, Linux, Windows, Unix, etc., is highly advantageous. This indicates your versatility in setting up and managing various server environments.
